The properties of 99.5% industrial pure titanium include: density ρ=4.5g/cm³, melting point 1725ºC, thermal conductivity λ=15.24W/(m·K), tensile strength σb=539MPa, elongation δ=25%, section shrinkage ψ=25%, elastic modulus E=1.078×10MPa, and hardness HB195.

Versatile Heat Treatment Outcomes: By adjusting the heat treatment process, titanium alloys can be tailored to exhibit a variety of phase compositions and microstructures. Fine equiaxial structures provide good plasticity, thermal stability, and fatigue strength, while acicular structures offer high lasting strength, creep strength, and fracture toughness. Combined, these structures deliver excellent overall performance.
Common heat treatment methods include annealing, solution treatment, and aging. Annealing is used to alleviate internal stress, enhance plasticity, and stabilize the structure, thereby achieving superior comprehensive properties. For α alloy and (α+β) alloy, annealing temperatures are typically set 120 ~ 200ºC below the (α+β) → β phase transition point. Solution and aging treatments involve rapid cooling from high temperatures to form martensitic α' phase and metastable β phase, followed by medium temperature preservation to decompose these metastable phases into α phase or compounds and other finely dispersed second-phase particles, thus strengthening the alloy. Usually, (alpha+beta) alloys are quenched 40 ~ 100ºC below the alpha+beta → beta phase transition point, while metastable beta alloys are quenched 40 ~ 80ºC above this point. Aging temperatures generally range between 450 ~ 550ºC. Additionally, to meet specific workpiece requirements, the industry employs double annealing, isothermal annealing, β heat treatment, deformation heat treatment, and other specialized metal heat treatment processes.

Typical uses

Ordinary annealing state TC6 titanium alloy has good microstructure and property stability below 300ºC/5000h, and high temperature properties such as instantaneous tensile, creep and durability at different temperatures are equivalent to double annealing and isothermal annealing state. The semi-finished TC6 titanium alloy processed by ordinary annealing can meet the requirements of the service temperature of aircraft structural parts (below 300ºC).

Application

Titanium alloy finds its primary use in aircraft engine compressor components and is also extensively applied in rockets, missiles, and high-speed aircraft structural parts. Since the mid-1960s, titanium and its alloys have been adopted in general industry for producing electrolytic industry electrodes, power station condensers, oil refining and seawater desalination heaters, and environmental pollution control devices. Recognized as corrosion-resistant structural materials, titanium and its alloys are also utilized in the production of hydrogen storage materials and shape memory alloys.

China embarked on the study of titanium and titanium alloys in 1956. By the mid-1960s, this research had culminated in the industrial production of titanium materials and the development of the TB2 alloy.
