Titanium alloy pipes, crafted from premium titanium alloys, are categorized into three key groups based on their composition: (1) Titanium alloys with added aluminum and tin. (2) Titanium infused with alloying elements such as aluminum, chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium. (3) Titanium combined with aluminum and vanadium. These alloys boast high mechanical strength, exceptional stamping performance, and versatile weldability, with welded joint strength reaching up to 90% of the base metal's strength. They also offer excellent machining properties. Remarkably, titanium pipes exhibit superior corrosion resistance against chloride, sulfide, and ammonia, performing even better in seawater environments compared to aluminum alloys, stainless steel, and nickel-based alloys. Additionally, titanium's resistance to water impact is notably robust.

Properties of Titanium Alloy Tubes
Performance of Titanium Alloy Tubes: As an advanced metal, titanium's performance is influenced by impurity levels of carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen. The purest form, known as titanium iodide, contains impurity levels below 0.1%. Despite low strength, it possesses high plasticity. Industrial pure titanium, with 99.5% purity, has a density of ρ=4.5g/cm³, a melting point of 1725ºC, thermal conductivity of λ=15.24W/(m.K), tensile strength σb=539MPa, elongation δ=25%, section shrinkage ψ=25%, elastic modulus E=1.078×105MPa, and hardness HB195.
Advantages of Titanium Alloys

Titanium alloys offer numerous advantages over other metal materials:
Titanium alloys exhibit superior strength-to-density ratio (tensile strength/density), with tensile strength ranging from 100 to 140kgf/mm² while maintaining only 60% of steel's density.
These alloys retain excellent strength at medium temperatures, surpassing aluminum alloys. They maintain required strength at higher temperatures and can operate reliably for extended periods in the range of 450 ~ 500 °C.
Titanium's corrosion resistance is exceptional, forming a uniform, dense oxide film on its surface that shields against various media. In oxidizing and neutral environments, titanium showcases impressive corrosion resistance, which is further enhanced in seawater, wet chlorine gas, and chloride solutions. However, its performance in reducing media, such as hydrochloric acid, is less robust.
Titanium alloys with minimal gap elements, such as TA7, exhibit excellent low-temperature performance, maintaining plasticity even at -253°C.
These alloys are characterized by a low elastic modulus, minimal thermal conductivity, and non-ferromagnetic properties.
High Hardness.
While titanium alloys have limited stamping capabilities, their thermoplasticity is commendable.
The heat treatment process can be adjusted to achieve varying phase compositions and microstructures in heat-treated titanium alloys. Generally, a fine equiaxial structure imparts good plasticity, thermal stability, and fatigue strength. Conversely, an acicular structure offers high enduring strength, creep strength, and fracture toughness. A blend of equiaxed and acicular structures delivers well-rounded properties, combining the best attributes of both.
Common heat treatment methodologies include annealing, solution treatment, and aging. Annealing is pivotal for eradicating internal stress, augmenting plasticity, and stabilizing the structure to achieve superior comprehensive properties. Typically, the annealing temperature for α alloy and (α+β) alloy is set 120-200ºC below the (α+β) -→ β phase transformation point. Solution and aging treatment involve rapid cooling from a high-temperature zone to form martensitic α 'phase and metastable β phase. Subsequently, these metastable phases decompose in an intermediate temperature zone to form α phase or compounds and other minor dispersed second-phase particles, thereby strengthening the alloy. For (alpha + beta) alloys, quenching occurs 40-100ºC below the alpha + beta) -- - > beta phase transition point, while metastable beta alloys quench 40-80ºC above this point. The typical aging treatment temperature ranges from 450-550ºC. Additionally, to fulfill special workpiece requirements, the industry employs double annealing, isothermal annealing, β heat treatment, deformation heat treatment, and other advanced metal heat treatment processes.

Typical uses

Ordinary annealing state TC6 titanium alloy has good microstructure and property stability below 300ºC/5000h, and high temperature properties such as instantaneous tensile, creep and durability at different temperatures are equivalent to double annealing and isothermal annealing state. The semi-finished TC6 titanium alloy processed by ordinary annealing can meet the requirements of the service temperature of aircraft structural parts (below 300ºC).

Application

Titanium alloy is predominantly utilized in manufacturing aircraft engine compressor components, followed by structural parts in rockets, missiles, and high-speed aircraft. Since the mid-1960s, titanium and its alloys have expanded into general industry applications, including electrolytic industry electrodes, power station condensers, oil refining, seawater desalination heaters, and environmental pollution control devices. Titanium and its alloys have thus emerged as primary corrosion-resistant structural materials. Moreover, they are also employed in producing hydrogen storage materials and shape memory alloys.

China commenced research on titanium and its alloys in 1956, leading to the industrial production of titanium materials by the mid-1960s and the development of the TB2 alloy.
