Alloying
Titanium alloy is a sophisticated blend of titanium with other elements designed to optimize performance. Titanium exhibits two distinct crystal structures: Below 882ºC, it forms a close-packed hexagonal structure known as α titanium, while above 882ºC, it becomes body-centered cubic β titanium.
Alloying Elements Classification Based on Phase Transition Temperature:
1. α-Stabilizing Elements: These elements stabilize the α phase and elevate the phase transition temperature. Key elements include aluminum, carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen. Aluminum is the principal alloying element, significantly enhancing the alloy's strength at both room and elevated temperatures, reducing specific gravity, and increasing elastic modulus.
2. β-Stabilizing Elements: These elements stabilize the β phase and lower the phase transition temperature. They are categorized into isomorphic types, such as molybdenum, niobium, and vanadium, and eutectoid types, such as chromium, manganese, copper, iron, and silicon.
β-Stabilizing Elements: -Isomorphic Type: Molybdenum, niobium, vanadium, etc. -Eutectoid Type: Chromium, manganese, copper, iron, silicon, etc.
3. Neutral Elements: These elements have minimal impact on phase transition temperature, examples include zirconium and tin.
Impurities in Titanium Alloys: - Oxygen and nitrogen greatly enhance alloy strength due to their high solubility in the α phase but decrease plasticity; thus, their content in titanium is restricted to 0.15-0.2% and 0.04-0.05%, respectively. - Hydrogen's solubility in the α phase is minimal; excess hydrogen can cause brittleness by forming hydrides. The hydrogen content is controlled below 0.015%, and any excess can be removed through vacuum annealing.

Application
Titanium plates are extensively utilized in the shipbuilding industry owing to their superb corrosion resistance, low density, shape memory, and non-magnetic properties. Applications include nuclear submarines, deep-sea submersibles, atomic icebreakers, hydrofoils, hovercrafts, minesweepers, propellers, whip antennas, seawater pipes, condensers, heat exchangers, acoustic devices, fire-fighting equipment, and more. The primary categories of titanium alloys are industrial pure titanium, titanium-zirconium alloy, and standard titanium alloy. Our Advantages
