The manufacturing process for high-temperature superalloy pipes is intricate and precise. Alloys with minimal or no aluminum and titanium are typically smelted using electric arc furnaces or non-vacuum induction furnaces. For superalloys containing aluminum and titanium, vacuum smelting is essential to control element burn-off and minimize gas inclusions. To further refine the ingot's crystal structure and reduce inclusions, a dual process involving initial smelting followed by secondary remelting is employed. Key smelting techniques include electric arc furnace, vacuum induction furnace, and non-vacuum induction furnace, while remelting processes leverage vacuum consumable furnaces and electroslag furnaces.
Solid solution-strengthened alloys and low aluminum-titanium alloys (with combined aluminum and titanium content below 4.5%) are suitable for forging. Alloys containing higher aluminum and titanium levels undergo an extrusion or rolling process before hot rolling. Some products may require additional cold rolling or cold drawing to achieve the desired specifications. Large diameter alloy ingots or cakes necessitate forging by hydraulic press or fast forging hydraulic press to ensure structural integrity and performance.
Highly alloyed, hard-to-deform alloys are predominantly used in precision casting for components like turbine blades and guide blades. Recent advances in directional crystallization processes have significantly improved the structural integrity of these castings. By promoting grain growth in a single direction during alloy solidification, this process eliminates grain boundaries perpendicular to the stress axis and minimizes porosity, resulting in parallel columnar crystals. To achieve directional crystallization, maintaining a substantial axial temperature gradient and optimal axial heat dissipation between the liquidus and solid phase lines is crucial. Additionally, single crystal blade manufacturing techniques have been developed to completely eliminate grain boundaries, enhancing the performance of these critical components.
