Our manufacturing process minimizes or excludes aluminum and titanium in superalloys, favoring electric arc furnaces or non-vacuum induction furnace smelting. For superalloys containing aluminum and titanium, vacuum smelting is preferred to control element loss and reduce gas and inclusions. To further enhance the distribution of inclusions and the crystal structure, a dual process combining smelting and secondary remelting is utilized. Electric arc furnaces, vacuum induction, and non-vacuum induction furnaces are employed for smelting. At the same time, vacuum consumable furnaces and electroslag furnaces are used for remelting.
Solid solution-strengthened alloys and alloy ingots with low aluminum and titanium content (less than 4.5%) are suitable for forging. Alloys containing aluminum and titanium are typically processed by extrusion or rolling, followed by hot rolling. Some products may require further cold rolling or cold drawing. Large diameter alloy ingots or cakes are forged using hydraulic presses or fast forging hydraulic presses.
Highly alloyed and difficult-to-deform alloys are extensively used in precision casting for turbine and guide blades. To minimize grain boundaries perpendicular to the stress axis and porosity, directional crystallization processes have been developed. This involves growing grains along a single crystal direction during solidification to achieve parallel columnar crystals without transverse grain boundaries. Ensuring a large axial temperature gradient and optimal axial heat dissipation between the liquidus and solid phase lines is crucial. Additionally, single crystal blade manufacturing processes are being developed to eliminate all grain boundaries.
