White Copper Composition
White copper is a sophisticated copper-based alloy, predominantly infused with nickel, giving it its silver-white hue and metallic luster. This alloy forms a continuous solid solution, meaning that regardless of the ratios, copper and nickel blend seamlessly into a single-phase alloy (α-phase). When nickel content exceeds 16% in red copper, the alloy takes on a striking silver-white appearance, becoming progressively whiter with higher nickel content. Typically, the nickel content in white copper is around 25%, ensuring its robust properties.
Applications
By integrating pure copper with nickel, the alloy gains significant enhancements in strength, corrosion resistance, hardness, resistance, and thermoelectricity. This blend also stabilizes the temperature coefficient of resistivity. Consequently, white copper boasts superior mechanical and physical properties compared to other copper alloys. It exhibits excellent ductility, high hardness, a beautiful color, and rich deep drawing properties. Widely applied in shipbuilding, petrochemicals, electrical appliances, instruments, medical equipment, and daily use items, white copper is also pivotal in crafting handicrafts and essential resistance and thermocouple alloys. However, the primary additive, nickel, is a scarce and costly strategic material.
