High-Temperature Alloy Pipe Manufacturing Process

For superalloys lacking or with minimal aluminum and titanium content, electric arc furnaces or non-vacuum induction furnaces are typically used for smelting. When smelting superalloys that contain aluminum and titanium in an atmospheric environment, it's challenging to control element loss and prevent gas and inclusions from entering. Thus, vacuum smelting is preferred. To further enhance the purity and crystalline structure of the ingot, a dual process combining smelting and secondary remelting is often employed. Primary smelting techniques include electric arc, vacuum induction, and non-vacuum induction furnaces. Remelting techniques include vacuum consumable and electroslag furnaces.
Solid solution strengthened alloys and those with low aluminum and titanium content (less than 4.5%) can be forged directly. Alloys containing aluminum and titanium are generally processed through extrusion or rolling, followed by hot rolling, with some products requiring additional cold rolling or drawing. Large-diameter alloy ingots necessitate forging via hydraulic or fast-forging hydraulic presses for optimal results.
Highly alloyed, hard-to-deform superalloys are increasingly used in precision casting for components like turbine and guide blades. To minimize or eliminate grain boundaries and porosity, directional crystallization processes have been developed. This ensures grain growth along a single crystal direction during solidification, resulting in parallel columnar crystals without transverse grain boundaries. Achieving directional crystallization requires maintaining a substantial axial temperature gradient and effective axial heat dissipation between liquidus and solidus phases. Additionally, single crystal blade manufacturing processes are under study to completely eliminate grain boundaries.
