A superalloy tube is a meticulously engineered alloy tube designed to endure significant stress while exhibiting exceptional resistance to oxidation and corrosion.
Nickel-based superalloys and cobalt-based superalloys represent the pinnacle of material science. These can be classified into deformation superalloys, casting superalloys, and powder metallurgy superalloys, each crafted through distinct preparation processes. Depending on the strengthening method, they are categorized as solid solution strengthening type, precipitation strengthening type, oxide dispersion strengthening type, and fiber strengthening type (refer to metal strengthening). Superalloys shine in the manufacturing of high-temperature components such as turbine blades, guide blades, turbine discs, high-pressure compressor discs, and combustion chambers for aviation, naval, and industrial gas turbines (Figure 1). Their remarkable properties also make them ideal for space vehicles, rocket engines, nuclear reactors, petrochemical equipment, and energy conversion devices like coal conversion systems.

High Temperature Alloy Pipe Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process of superalloys devoid of or with minimal aluminum and titanium typically involves using an electric arc furnace or a non-vacuum induction furnace for smelting. For superalloys containing aluminum and titanium, atmospheric smelting poses challenges in controlling element loss and inclusions, necessitating the use of vacuum smelting. To further minimize inclusions and enhance the ingot's crystal structure, a dual-process combining smelting and secondary remelting is adopted. Key smelting methods include electric arc furnace, vacuum induction furnace, and non-vacuum induction furnace, while remelting primarily utilizes vacuum consumable furnaces and electroslag furnaces.
Solid solution-strengthened alloys and ingots with low aluminum and titanium content (totaling less than 4.5%) are amenable to forging. Alloys rich in aluminum and titanium undergo extrusion or rolling, followed by hot rolling, with some products requiring additional cold rolling or cold drawing. Large-diameter alloy ingots or cakes are forged using hydraulic presses or fast-forging hydraulic presses.
Highly alloyed materials that are challenging to deform are predominantly used in precision casting, such as for crafting turbine blades and guide blades. Recent advancements have introduced directional crystallization processes to mitigate or eliminate transverse grain boundaries and porosity in cast alloys. This technique allows grains to grow along a single crystal direction during alloy solidification, resulting in parallel columnar crystals devoid of transverse grain boundaries. Essential conditions for directional crystallization include maintaining a substantial axial temperature gradient and optimized axial heat dissipation between the liquid and solid phases (refer to metal solidification). Furthermore, research into manufacturing single crystal blades has emerged to eliminate all grain boundaries.
