High Temperature Alloy Pipe Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process for superalloys containing minimal or no aluminum and titanium typically involves electric arc furnaces or non-vacuum induction furnaces. For superalloys with aluminum and titanium, vacuum smelting is essential to control element loss and minimize gas and inclusions. To further enhance the quality, smelting is often followed by secondary remelting using vacuum consumable or electroslag furnaces, refining the crystal structure and reducing inclusions.
Solid solution strengthened alloys and ingots with low aluminum and titanium content (less than 4.5%) can be forged. Alloys containing aluminum and titanium are usually processed by extrusion or rolling, followed by hot rolling. Some products may require additional cold rolling or drawing. Large diameter ingots must be forged using hydraulic or fast-forging hydraulic presses.
Highly alloyed, hard-to-deform superalloys are commonly used in precision casting, such as turbine and guide blades. The directional crystallization process has been developed to reduce grain boundaries perpendicular to the stress axis and eliminate porosity in cast alloys. This process ensures grains grow in a single crystal direction, producing parallel columnar crystals without transverse grain boundaries, enhancing the integrity of components like single crystal blades.
