Our advanced manufacturing process meticulously avoids or minimizes aluminum and titanium in superalloys, generally utilizing electric arc furnaces or non-vacuum induction furnaces for smelting. For superalloys containing aluminum and titanium, the control of elemental burn-off and the prevention of gas and inclusion infiltration are ensured through vacuum smelting. To further enhance the purity and crystalline structure of ingots, we employ a dual process of smelting followed by secondary remelting. Primary smelting methods include electric arc furnaces and vacuum/non-vacuum induction furnaces, while remelting is achieved through vacuum consumable furnaces and electroslag furnaces.
Solid solution strengthened alloys and low aluminum and titanium content alloy ingots (with aluminum and titanium totaling less than 4.5%) are typically forged. Alloys containing higher levels of aluminum and titanium are usually processed through extrusion or rolling, followed by hot rolling. Some products undergo further cold rolling or cold drawing. Large diameter alloy ingots or billets necessitate forging using hydraulic or fast-forging hydraulic presses.
Highly alloyed, hard-to-deform materials are now predominantly utilized in precision casting, especially for turbine and guide blades. Recent advancements have introduced directional crystallization processes to reduce or eliminate grain boundaries perpendicular to the stress axis and minimize porosity in cast alloys. During solidification, grains grow in one crystal direction, resulting in parallel columnar crystals void of transverse grain boundaries. Achieving this requires maintaining a substantial axial temperature gradient and excellent axial heat dissipation between the liquidus and solid-phase lines. Research is ongoing to develop single crystal blade manufacturing processes to completely eliminate grain boundaries.
