Taylor and M. White in the U.S. in 1898. Beyond conventionally melted high-speed steel, the advent of powder metallurgy high-speed steel in the 1960s offered improved mechanical properties by preventing carbide segregation. Produced primarily in electric furnaces and increasingly via powder metallurgy, it ensures uniformly distributed fine carbide particles, enhancing service life.
