Superalloy refers to a class of metal materials based on iron, nickel, and cobalt designed to deliver exceptional performance under extreme conditions. These materials excel in high-temperature environments exceeding 600ºC, enduring substantial stress while maintaining superior strength, outstanding oxidation and corrosion resistance, excellent fatigue performance, and remarkable fracture toughness. Structurally, superalloys exhibit a single austenitic formation, ensuring exceptional stability and reliability across diverse temperature ranges.
Given these impressive properties and the high alloying degree inherent in superalloys-often referred to as 'super alloys'-they are indispensable in industries such as aviation, aerospace, petroleum, chemical, and marine applications. Superalloys are categorized based on their matrix elements: iron, nickel, cobalt, and others. Iron-based superalloys are effective up to temperatures of 750~780°C, whereas nickel-based and refractory metal-based alloys are preferred for higher temperatures. Nickel-based superalloys hold a pivotal role in the superalloy domain, being extensively used in manufacturing aviation jet engines and various industrial gas turbine hot-end components.
