A superalloy tube is an exceptional alloy tube designed to endure significant stress and maintain superior oxidation and corrosion resistance.
Nickel-based and cobalt-based superalloys are the two primary types. Depending on the preparation process, these can be categorized into deformation superalloy, casting superalloy, and powder metallurgy superalloy. They can also be classified by their strengthening methods such as solid solution strengthening, precipitation strengthening, oxide dispersion strengthening, and fiber strengthening. Superalloys are indispensable for manufacturing high-temperature components like turbine blades, guide blades, turbine discs, high-pressure compressor discs, and combustion chambers for aviation, naval, and industrial gas turbines. Their applications extend to the production of spacecraft, rocket engines, nuclear reactors, petrochemical equipment, and energy conversion devices such as coal conversion systems.

High Temperature Alloy Pipe Manufacturing Process Overview

The manufacturing process of superalloys that do not contain or contain minimal aluminum and titanium typically involves electric arc furnaces or non-vacuum induction furnace smelting. For superalloys containing aluminum and titanium, vacuum smelting is essential to control element loss and prevent gas and inclusion contamination. To further enhance the quality, a dual process of smelting and secondary remelting is employed. Primary smelting methods include electric arc furnace, vacuum induction furnace, and non-vacuum induction furnace, while remelting is mainly carried out using vacuum consumable furnaces and electroslag furnaces.
Solid solution strengthened alloys and ingots with less than 4.5% total aluminum and titanium can be forged. Alloys with higher aluminum and titanium content are typically extruded or hot-rolled, followed by additional cold rolling or drawing if necessary. Large diameter ingots or cakes require forging by hydraulic or fast forging hydraulic presses.
Highly alloyed and hard-to-deform alloys are now often used in precision casting to shape components like turbine blades and guide blades. To minimize grain boundaries and porosity in cast alloys, directional crystallization processes have been developed. These processes ensure grains grow in a single direction during solidification, producing parallel columnar crystals free from transverse grain boundaries. Achieving directional crystallization necessitates maintaining a significant axial temperature gradient and excellent axial heat dissipation. Research into single crystal blade manufacturing aims to eliminate all grain boundaries entirely.
