Solid solution strengthened alloys and ingots with low aluminum and titanium content (totaling less than 4.5%) can be forged. Alloys containing aluminum and titanium typically undergo extrusion or rolling, followed by hot rolling, with some requiring further cold rolling or cold drawing. Large diameter alloy ingots or cakes necessitate forging by hydraulic press or fast forging hydraulic press.

Recent advancements include directional crystallization processes, which minimize transverse grain boundaries and porosity by promoting grain growth along a single crystal direction during solidification.
