Titanium alloy are divided into three main groups:alpha-phase,Beta-phase,and alpha-beta-phase.Grade 23 Ti 6AI 4V ELI alloy is an alpha-beta wrought alloy. The ELI stands for extra low interstitial For an alloy to be branded as an ELI product,it should be produced as such at the mill .The specification is from 5.8 to 325mm.It can be widely used in airframe components, cryogenic vessels, heat exchangers.CPI equipment, condenser tubing, picking baskets, exhaust pip shrouds, cases, hubs forgings, biomedical implants.
Alloying
Titanium alloy is a composite material made by adding various elements to titanium. This alloy exists in two crystal forms: α titanium, a close-packed hexagonal structure below 882ºC, and β titanium, a body-centered cubic structure above 882ºC.
Alloying elements are categorized based on their impact on the phase transition temperature:
1. α Phase Stabilizers: Elements like aluminum, carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen that stabilize the α phase and increase the transition temperature. Aluminum is particularly significant, enhancing strength at both room and high temperatures, reducing density, and increasing elastic modulus.
2. β Phase Stabilizers: Elements that stabilize the β phase and lower the transition temperature. These can be isomorphic elements like molybdenum, niobium, and vanadium, or eutectoid types like chromium, manganese, copper, iron, and silicon.
The isomorphic stabilizers include molybdenum, niobium, and vanadium; the eutectoid types are chromium, manganese, copper, iron, and silicon.
3. Neutral Elements: Elements like zirconium and tin that have minimal effect on the phase transition temperature.
Impurities: Oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and hydrogen are primary impurities in titanium alloys. While oxygen and nitrogen significantly strengthen the alloy by being highly soluble in the α phase, they reduce plasticity. The typical content limits are below 0.15~0.2% for oxygen and 0.04~0.05% for nitrogen. Hydrogen, with limited solubility, should be kept below 0.015% to prevent brittleness. Excess hydrogen forms hydrides, but can be removed with vacuum annealing.
Application
Titanium plates excel in the shipbuilding industry due to their exceptional corrosion resistance, low density, memory, and non-magnetic properties. They are utilized in nuclear submarines, deep submersibles, atomic icebreakers, hydrofoils, hovercraft, minesweepers, propellers, whip antennas, seawater pipes, condensers, heat exchangers, acoustic devices, and fire-fighting equipment. Major titanium alloy applications include industrial pure titanium, titanium zirconium alloy, and various titanium alloys. Our Advantages
