Performance Requirements
1. Annealing Processability
The annealing process for this steel is forgiving, with a wide temperature range. It achieves low and stable annealing hardness and boasts a high spheroidization rate.
2. Forgeability
This steel offers excellent forgeability, characterized by low resistance to hot forging deformation and good plasticity. It operates within a broad forging temperature range, with a reduced tendency for forging cracks, cold cracks, and carbide precipitation.
3. Oxidation and Decarburization Sensitivity
The material exhibits strong oxidation resistance under high temperatures, a slow decarburization rate, and remains unaffected by the heating medium. It also shows low pitting tendencies.
4. Cutting Processability
It allows for large cutting volumes with minimal tool wear and achieves low surface roughness during machining.
5. Hardenability
This steel can attain a deep hardened layer upon quenching and can be hardened using a mild quenching medium.
6. Grindability
The steel ensures low relative loss of the grinding wheel, allows for significant grinding without burning, and is less sensitive to the quality of the grinding wheel and cooling conditions. It resists abrasion and grinding cracks effectively.
7. Hardenability
Post-quenching, the steel achieves uniform and high surface hardness.
8. Quenching Deformation and Cracking Tendency
Conventional quenching results in minimal volume changes, slight shape warping, and low abnormal deformation tendencies. The steel shows low cracking sensitivity and is minimally affected by quenching temperature and workpiece shape.
