White copper composition
White copper is a copper-based alloy with nickel as its primary additive. With a striking silver-white metallic luster, white copper is aptly named. The alloy forms a continuous solid solution, regardless of the proportional mix of copper and nickel, resulting in an α-single-phase alloy. When nickel content exceeds 16% in red copper, the alloy adopts a stunning silver-white coloration, becoming progressively whiter with higher nickel content. Typically, white copper contains about 25% nickel.
Application
Adding pure copper to nickel markedly enhances strength, corrosion resistance, hardness, and thermoelectric properties, alongside lowering the temperature coefficient of resistivity.
